I’m Benedict. Living in Munich, Germany.

Currently, I am working as a data journalist at the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s leading daily. From 2018 to February 2020 I was a digital journalism trainee there, working in different departments.

I care a lot about making data accessible and digging deep into big datasets to find exiting stories for our readers. And I love to make stories shine – with great visuals.

Before starting work I studied political science in a master’s degree at LMU Munich – and wrote my master’s thesis about open data in German municipalities.

From time to time I still do podcasts for the SZ and small radio pieces for BR PULS – sometimes I even win something.

How I work

As I data journalist I mainly use R and Python with all different sorts of packages. Sometimes I use Shiny or Javascript to build apps. And of course I do a lot of HTML and CSS – to build websites or to scrape the web 😉
